Day Four of Farnborough Airshow 2018 saw orders slow down even more, but this is to be expected. Tomorrow on Friday, we might see some last minute orders!
Adding to yesterday’s MoU for 100 737 MAX aircraft, VietJet has signed a new MoU for 50 additional A321neos.
The deal, once firmed, will add to the airlines order for 123 A321neos.
At list prices, the deal is worth $6.5 billion.
A rather bizarre fleet choice if you ask me. 737 MAX and A321neo combo sounds a bit odd.
Airbus has announced that they have a signed firm order for an additional 34 A330-900neos from Air Asia X!
The order was announced at the Farnborough Air Show during the early hours of day four.
This new order takes the airlines total order for the type to 100 aircraft, making them the largest customer.
Deliveries will start Q4 of 2019.
You might think this is just another sale, however Air Asia has been putting off this order for a while now, undecided whether they should cancel and go for the 787 or keep the A330neo and order more. This order allows Airbus to breathe a sigh of relief.
Interestingly enough, Tony Fernandes, Group Chief Executive for Air Asia, was not at the signing event and recently announced no order will be made at Farnborough.
This order comes to a blow to Boeing as they pitched their 787 aggressively, trying to wipe the A330neo out. It’s likely the commonality, performance and price played a big role in the decision.
At list prices, all 100 aircraft have a value of $29.6 billion.
