Travellers are celebrating as the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) and Guam International Airport Authority (GIAA) have announced the return of T’way Air’s daily flights from Kansai, Japan to Guam. The service is now operating at a higher level than it did prior to COVID-19, indicating the recovery of international travel to pre-pandemic rates. These flights are expected to bring in much tourism to Guam, boosting the island’s economy and world standing.

Kansai to Guam

On July 18, Flight TW 509 landed in Guam, carrying 184 passengers on-board. Officials from GVB and GIAA welcomed the visitors and crew with traditional leis and local treats, demonstrating the island’s famed hospitality. Adding to the excitement was the appearance of the fun mascot Kiko the Ko’ko’ Bird who also greeted and took photos with the arrivals. The GIAA’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) team further honoured T’way Air’s return to Guam with a ceremonial water salute.

T’way Air discontinued their service to Guam in February 2020 due to the global pandemic. The return of their operations is an exciting step forward in international travel, and the daily flights from Kansai to Guam exceeds their previous frequency. These flights add an extra 14,000 airline seats for the Japanese market during Q4 FY2025, which will catalyse the recovery of Guam’s travel and tourism industries. Not only can Japanese visitors fly to Guam with ease, but tourists can head to Guam as a secondary destination after exploring the Land of the Rising Sun.

To further celebrate this milestone, a T’way Guam Celebration Night was held at the Senba Kitchen Kita-Umeda in Osaka, Japan. Approximately 30 guests attended this event and reconnected with Guam’s unique culture and offerings – participants included key travel trade partners and media representatives. This occasion featured a unique Chamorro-inspired menu, carefully created by Chef Casey Castro and Chef Daisuke Negishi. Their collaboration is one of many examples of how Japan and Guam can now connect more easily for increased mutual success and support.

About T’way Air

T’way Air is a South Korean airline, headquartered in Seoul. The carrier operates from their two bases at Gimpo International Airport (GMP) and Incheon International Airport (ICN), flying to over 50 destinations across the world. The airline primarily provides services around Asia, but is also working on expanding their network in Europe, with flights offered to cities like Paris, Rome, Barcelona, and Frankfurt.

Previously operating as Hansung Airlines before reorganising and rebranding, T’way Air has since grown to operate a fleet of 41 aircraft, with a further 11 aircraft ordered. This indicates T’way Air’s goals of global growth and the continuous progress of their services. The next step in these developments is the introduction of T’way Air offering flights to Denpasar, Indonesia this coming September.
