Qatar Airways is expecting to continue flights to Canberra by the end of 2025. Daily flights to the city will operate via Melbourne and go to the airline’s primary hub, Hamad International Airport in Doha. Services to Canberra were suspended in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. New Boeing 777 aircraft will operate the flights, which are expected to commence in December 2025.

What to expect on the flights

Qatar Airways has consistently been labelled as the ‘World’s Best Airline‘, and it expects the continuation of flights to Canberra to maintain a high standard and provide comfort for passengers. Using the Boeing 777 to continue flights to Australia’s capital adds to the quality and comfort expected from the airline. The 777 is capable of carrying up to 390 passengers.

A GE90-115B engine runs the Boeing 777, which propels the aircraft between 13,000 to 15,000 kilometres. On top of the basic specifications for the Boeing 777, the aircraft will include Qatar Airways’ Q-suite Business Class cabin. The airline is also providing complimentary high-speed Starlink WiFi to all passengers. This will boost passenger morale and comfort, and increase connectivity with the rest of the world. Utilising the Boeing 777 in this manner will continue the airline’s streak of achieving the best possible quality.

How will Qatar Airways and Canberra benefit?

The flag carrier returning to regular flights to and from Canberra benefits both parties.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Badr Mohammad Al Meer, said:

“our commitment to Australia, and to Canberra… will bring much needed healthy competition to the market and greater choice for passengers.”

Returning to Australia’s capital will also improve tourism for the region,  enhancing the city’s global connectivity and contributing to the local economy.

Stephan Bryon, CEO of Canberra Airport, said

“the service… invites the world to rediscover Canberra’s unique cultural, educational and tourism offerings… These opportunities are not just about enhancing connectivity; they’re about strengthening business connections, driving economic development, and creating jobs, as well as fostering tourism and attracting international students to our vibrant city.”
