Hunnu Air has launched flights between Mongolia and Mainland China using Embraer’s E195-E2 aircraft, with the inaugural flight between Ulaanbaatar and Beijing Daxing Airport operating successfully yesterday.

Hunnu Air Launches E195-E2 Aircraft

Hunnu Air, along with Brazilian aerospace corporation Embraer and Beijing Daxing Airport, held a ceremony to celebrate the introduction of the route, and with it, closer connectivity between the two countries and their aviation hubs. Embraer delivered the two E195-E2 aircraft to the Mongolian airline last month in April. Hunnu Air plans to use these aircraft to develop its routes in three ways:

  • Increasing capacity on flights to Haikou (China), Sanya (China) and Phu Quoc (Vietnam);
  • Expanding services to Japan, China, Vietnam, India and South Korea;
  • Introducing scheduled flights to Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The aircraft are configured in Embraer’s dual class layout with 136 seats and two-by-two seating, avoiding the inconvenience experienced by passengers allocated a middle seat. The introduction of the aircraft also align with the airline’s commitment towards adopting cutting-edge technology and developing sustainability practices, boasting benefits such as a 20% reduction in carbon emissions. Munkhjargal Purevjal, CEO of Hunnu Air, had the following to say:

The launch of this route with our new E195-E2 aircraft reflects Hunnu Air’s determination to expand our international network and symbolises the deepening friendship and collaboration between Mongolia and China in this new era. Since 2019, we have operated first-generation E190 aircraft, and the introduction of the E195-E2 serves as the perfect upgrade to meet growing domestic and international travel demands. We expect that [the] E2 will become a backbone of our long-term growth, enabling us to deliver unparalleled connectivity across the region.

Continued Cooperation between Embraer and Hunnu Air

The celebration of the E195-E2’s inaugural flight marks another milestone in the continued partnership of Embraer and Hunnu Air. The utilisation of these Embraer aircraft comes after the recent type certification of Embraer’s E190-E2 and E195-E2 by the Mongolian Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA). These new aircraft serve as an upgrade to the E190 aircraft that Hunnu Air added to its fleet in 2019 to expand capacity of its domestic and international services. Martyn Holmes, Chief Commercial Officer of Embraer Commercial Aviation, gave the following statement:

Today, we take immense pride in the launch of this route with Hunnu Air’s new E195-E2, the first E2 jet to operate at mainland China. The deployment of the E195-E2 on this key route underscores the depth of our partnership with Hunnu Air and our shared responsibility to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. We stand firmly with Hunnu Air to support the success of this critical corridor. The rightsized E2 will enable Hunnu Air to profitably grow, unlocking the huge potential of Mongolia and strengthening a growing Asia network.

Have you had the chance to fly on an E195-E2 aircraft yet? What experiences have you had with Hunnu Air? Feel free to weigh in below in the comments.
