In collaboration with the Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy (HKYAA), Cathay has announced the launch of two new initiatives that are aimed at nurturing the next generation of aviation enthusiasts. These are the AeroQuiz and the Cathay Inter-school Aviation Challenge Cup.

The Two New Initiatives

The first initiative is AeroQuiz, an online interactive platform that is designed to enhance aviation knowledge and is open to the general public including a dedicated school stream running from June to August. It was developed by HKYAA and sponsored by Cathay, and is designed to deepen knowledge and set off a curiosity through daily challenges. The AeroQuiz platform is scheduled to operate from June 28 to November 30, 2025, with a special school stream accessible from June 28 to August 31. Contestants on AeroQuiz will have the opportunity to earn prizes, which may consist of aviation-related experiences and merchandise.

The second is the Cathay Inter-school Aviation Challenge Cup (CISACC for short). CISACC is a competition that is meant to bring together secondary school students across Hong Kong to explore aviation and its industry through problem solving and teamwork. The top 16 secondary schools that excelled in the AeroQuiz will qualify for the Cathay Inter-school Aviation Challenge Cup taking place on December 13. This event will be a live competition uniting the most talented participants to face a variety of challenges, all centred around aviation, offering them the opportunity to win prizes such as international aviation trips, round-trip flights within Asia, simulator experiences, and numerous other rewards.

The collaboration between Cathay and the Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy emerged from the shared values that both organisations had of being a positive force for their community, as well as Cathay’s commitment to promoting youth development in Hong Kong.

Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, said:

“At Cathay, we are deeply committed to inspiring Hong Kong’s youth to dream big and reach for the skies. Through AeroQuiz and the Cathay Inter-School Aviation Challenge Cup, we aim to make aviation education engaging, accessible and rewarding. These initiatives not only celebrate curiosity and a passion for learning, but also provide young participants with a springboard to future opportunities in the aviation industry. I look forward to seeing them spread their wings and fly high on this exciting journey.”

Alongside Cathay’s youth development programme, I Can Fly, these two extra initiatives reiterate their commitment to empowering youth in Hong Kong and spreading the interest of the aviation industry.

Patrick Lau, HKYAA’s Captain, said:

“At the Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy, we share a common dream — to inspire and nurture the next generation of aviation professionals. Today, over 100 of our alumni have joined the aviation sector, and we firmly believe that even more will shine brightly in the years to come. Through initiatives like AeroQuiz, we’re expanding our reach to secondary school students, confident that planting the seeds of aviation early will help cultivate a rich and thriving future for the industry.”

The Launch

AeroQuiz was launched on June 28, with the Cathay Inter-school Aviation Challenge Cup taking place later this year. The launch event for the new initiatives was held at Cathay’s headquarters in Hong Kong and was hosted by Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, and HKYAA Chairman Captain, Patrick Lau. The Under Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs of the Hong Kong SAR Government Clarence Leung was one of the guests of honour at the event, he said:

”I am delighted to witness the official launch of AeroQuiz and the Cathay Inter-school Aviation Challenge Cup, jointly introduced by Cathay and the Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy. As a thoughtfully designed interactive platform, AeroQuiz features rich content including aviation history and theories, enabling young people to explore the world of aviation in a fun and engaging competition format. I particularly appreciate how Cathay has transformed complex aviation concepts into lively and accessible quiz questions, showcasing the industry’s dedication and creativity in nurturing future aviation talent.”
