New chairman elected amid board changes

Vranckx was elected to the Austrian Airlines Supervisory Board at the company’s Annual General Meeting before being chosen as Chairman at the board meeting held later the same day.

Streichert stepped down from his position with immediate effect to be alongside the remaining board members, including Veit Schmid-Schmidsfelden, Elisabeth Gruber and Hans-Joachim Arnold. Employee representatives Rene Karl Pfister and Andreas Geldner will also continue in their roles as delegates.

Speaking after his appointment, Vranchz said:

“I would like to express my gratitude for the trust placed in me and Iook forward to this new role. Austrian Airlines is a strong brand with high operational expertise and great importance within the Lufthansa Group.”

He added that he looks forward to working with the airline’s Executive Board and Supervisory Board to support the company’s strategic development.

Extensive Lufthansa Group experience

The 53 year old has served on the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG since July 2024 as chief commercial officer of the Lufthansa Group. Streichert backs successor

Streichert, who became chairman in August 2024, thanked fellow board members as he stepped down from the position and expressed confidence in his successor:

“I am convinced that Dieter Vranckx, with his extensive experience, industry expertise, and close involvement in current commercial topics, will continue to drive the company’s successful development. I wish him every success in his new role,” Streichert said.
