Airbus and Lufthansa Group have set out further cooperative action plans in the wake of reaching 50 years of partnership. The agreement was signed on Wednesday, June 10, in Berlin, and one of the key actions agreed upon includes a further aircraft delivery to Lufthansa from Airbus.

A Long History
At the opening of the ILA Berlin Air Show of 2026, Airbus and Lufthansa agreed on a series of strategic and logistical partnership efforts for the near future.
The Lufthansa Group is an aviation company based in Cologne, whose principal airline, Lufthansa, is the flag carrier of Germany, while Airbus is the largest aeronautical and space company in Europe and a key competitor to U.S.-based Boeing. The partnership between these two key players in the aviation sector began in 1976, when Airbus delivered its first A300 aircraft to Lufthansa.
ILA Berlin is one of the leading global aviation events, bringing together industry specialists and showcasing technological developments that are expected to guide the future of the aerospace sector. At the event, Lufthansa and Airbus demonstrated their strong partnership with the exhibition of an honorary Airbus A320neo featuring exclusive livery celebrating Lufthansa’s 100 year anniversary.
This special edition aircraft is just one of many Airbus aircraft operated by the Lufthansa Group. In fact, the Lufthansa Group has utilised all Airbus aircraft families, including the A220, A300, A320, A330/A340, A350 and A380. For several of these, Lufthansa was the launch operator.
A firm order for 10 additional A350-900 aircraft has also recently been finalised by Lufthansa to complement its existing fleet of 43 of the same type. In total, Lufthansa has ordered 75 Airbus A350s, including the A350-1000, which is expected to be delivered soon.

Future Collaboration
As part of the anniversary celebration, the two parties signed an agreement to further develop and strengthen their partnership and individual operations. Signed in the presence of Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the agreement constituted several points, the first being the announced delivery of the 700th aircraft for the Lufthansa Group scheduled for later this year.
On top of this, Lufthansa signed a component services agreement covering its entire Airbus A220 fleet as part of the wider agreement. This aims to ensure that the smallest member of the Airbus aircraft family can operate at full efficiency across the various airlines of the Lufthansa Group.
Airbus and Lufthansa also reaffirmed their joint commitment to the future of sustainable aviation. To demonstrate this, both companies recently presented a SharkSkin aircraft coating for the A330, which intends to reduce fuel consumption.
Carsten Spohr, CEO Lufthansa Group, commented at the event:
“As the world leading aviation groups, Airbus and the Lufthansa Group share a long-standing, trusting, and very special partnership. Over the past half-century, we have not only taken delivery of more aircraft from Toulouse and Hamburg than any other airline in the world, but have also supported the development of numerous aircraft models as launch customers. We intend to build on this foundation together to further advance aircraft technology and expand Europe’s leading role in the aviation sector.”
He continued to highlight how the agreement represented a major milestone and one example of how Airbus and Lufthansa were working collectively to consolidate aviation as one of Germany’s key industries.
