An Investigation is Underway

The crash was during an emergency landing.

International aviation experts and Kazakh officials are looking into every possible reason for the incident, such as weather, human error and mechanical failure. According to Reuters reports, external interference might be one of the factors. Survivors also heard loud bangs before the crash.

“I thought the plane was going to fall apart,” Subhonkul Rakhimov, one of the passengers, told Reuters.

“It was obvious that the plane had been damaged in some way,” he said.

“It was as if it was drunk – not the same plane anymore.”

Another passenger told Reuters that she also heard a loud bang.

“I was very scared,” said Vafa Shabanova, adding that there was also a second bang.

Azerbaijan Airlines said “external physical and technical interference” might be one of the factors, but stressed to wait for the final investigation results. Authorities are studying radar records and analysing black box data to find out what happened.

This incident raises new concerns about regional aircraft safety. Azerbaijan Airlines has a good safety record and is committed to reviewing procedures to prevent future accidents.

Community in Mourning

Families and communities in Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan are mourning the victims. Memorial services and vigils are being held.
