Flights have been diverted to Stansted Airport (STN) due to strike action at Norwich Airport (NWI). Passengers have faced substantial delays over the weekend on 22 and 23 August, caused by action short of strike, which begna days before the full walkout, further disruptions as upcoming strikes force complete airport closures.
The Incident description
Three flights were redirected to Stansted Airport (STN) over the weekend, which is 70 miles away from Norwich, due to industrial action which affected air traffic control services. Passengers were faced with delays of up to six hours and were forced to make alternative arrangements to return to Norfolk.
Furthermore, flight delays are still to be expected on Aug. 28, 2026, when the airport will be fully closed due to a 24-hour strike.

A spokesperson for Norwich Airport mentioned:
” Our general advice to passengers is to check in as normal, and we advise they check with their airline for the latest information about their flight…passengers due to travel on Friday should check for further updates and options available to them.”
The strike is part of an ongoing dispute with members of the Prospect Union who want a 10% pay rise to bring salaries in line with industry standards and parental leave.

A TUI and UK&I spokesperson said:
“We are aware of ongoing strikes at Norwich Airports and have made the necessary preparations to ensure our customers can enjoy their holidays as planned…our priority is to keep customers informed and minimise disruption.”
The union is considering all options as the dispute continues; passengers travelling later on in the week are advised to stay updated with their airline for the latest information to avoid any travel disruptions and delays in their planned holidays.
