A ribbon cutting ceremony marked the opening of American Airlines’ (AA) brand new Terminal C pier at its largest hub, Dallas Forth Worth International Airport (DFW). The world’s largest airline has become the first to launch nine new electronic boarding gates with modern features and amenities.

Next generation travel
The pier expansion is the first of three phrases in the Terminal C reconstruction and expansion project which will completely rebuild and modernise the 52 year old terminal. As well as new seating, restaurant concessions and facilities, passengers will benefit from art installations and light-enhancing energy-efficient windows. It is AA’s busiest terminal at DFW, averaging nearly 200 of departures per day. The airline reports that 67 million customers were ‘cared for’ at DFW in 2025 and travelled to 230 destinations. In April, AA also expanded its DFW schedule from a nine to 13-bank operation.
The airline’s humble beginnings trace back to an air mail carrier in the Midwestern Unites States in 1926. In 2026, its centennial year, AA operates more than 6,000 flights to over 350 destinations with over 200 million customers. But it is its U.S. short-haul routes which generate the huge passenger volumes enabling it to top global rankings consistently.

Airline on top
AA has been consistently innovative as it can boast it was the first airline to introduce the first scheduled air cargo service as well as the world’s first airport lounge and airline loyalty program. In April, it unveiled its FIFA World Cup 2026-themed aircraft in partnership with Qatar Airways (QR) as an official tournament supplier.
It also fares well statistically. Online compensation platform AirHelp ranked AA 11th out of 117 global airlines in 2025. It scored 7.64 out of a possible 10 (based on on-time performance, customer service and claim processing data). It came out top of all U.S. airlines surveyed, closely followed by United Airlines (UA) which scored 7.54 and Delta Airlines (DL) with 7.46.
Last year, AA announced significant investment into DFW’s Terminal F highlighting that this airport expansion is just the start of its future domestic and global growth.
