For European travellers searching for new destinations to visit this holiday season, there is good news. All thanks to, TAP Air Portugal who has started operating flights to Manaus, the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas. On November 4, flight TP51 from Lisbon touched down at Manaus’ Eduardo Gomes International Airport. This marks an important step toward reestablishing Europe’s connection to the Amazon’s abundant biodiversity and increasing tourism to the state.
Flight Details and Schedule
The 11-hour, 45-minute flight is operated by the A321 Neo aircraft, which carries around 154 passengers with a layover in Belém. The schedule is as follows, TAP Air Portugal operates flights between Lisbon and Manaus on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On the same day, departures from Lisbon are planned to depart at 10:35 and arrive in Manaus at 18:20. Flights back from Manaus leave at 19:35 and reach Lisbon at 11:10 the next day.
Commitment to Brazil and Tourism
To increase tourism to this state, Luís Rodrigues, President of TAP, expressed delight in resuming flights to Manaus. Also emphasizing the airline’s commitment to Brazil and tourism in the region.
“This connection reaffirms our commitment to Brazil and to tourism in the region, offering new opportunities for European travellers to get to know the region and for Brazilians to have another direct channel of access to Europe,” said Rodrigues.
Wilson Lima, who is the Governor of the Amazonas, highlighted the strong cultural and community ties between Portugal and the Amazonas. He praised TAP’s investment and the airline’s willingness to operate flights three times a week. Which enhances connectivity and fosters cooperative friendships between the two.
TAP Portugals Extensive Network in Brazil
In addition to TAP Air Portugal airline operating the most flights between Europe and Brazil, it operates 100 weekly flights from 13 Brazilian capital cities. Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Natal, Maceió, Manaus and more are the destinations to which the airline provides direct flights from Lisbon. On the 3rd of September, the airlines announced a new route from Lisbon to Florianópolis which is often known as “Magic Island” or “Floripa,” popular for its pristine beaches and its rich cultural heritage. Furthermore, TAP offers 15 routes from Lisbon and Porto to 13 Brazilian destinations, including connections to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Above all, the World Travel Awards has named TAP Air Portugal Europe’s Leading Airline to South America for ten years. Also, the airline won the Best European Company MICE Award in 2023.
