Singapore Airlines has announced that it will operate an Airbus A380 between Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), creating the shortest route currently flown by superjumbo aircraft.

A Potentially Temporary A380 Deployment
According to preliminary data from Aero Routes, the A380 is scheduled to operate flights SQ882/883 between Dec. 1, 2027, and Jan. 31, 2028. This information remains subject to change and it is unclear if the A380 will continue the route beyond this period.
It is possible that the A380 is a placeholder in the schedule and could later be replaced by a more appropriate aircraft.
The route is currently operated by the Airbus A350-900. Ahead of the A380’s planned return to Hong Kong, Singapore Airlines will use its Boeing 777-300ERs to operate SQ874/875 from Oct. 31 to Nov. 27, 2027.

Singapore Airlines’ Earlier Withdrawal of the A380 From Hong Kong
The potential return of the A380 to HKG in winter 2027/28 is a notable because the Singapore Airlines’ ended its A380 service to HKG earlier this year.
The July 2026 decision meant the expected June and July 2027 A380 flights to HKG would not happen, leaving Emirates as the only carrier serving Hong Kong with A380S.
However, Singapore Airlines did not rule out the possibility of the A380’s return, making the preliminary winter 2027/2028 schedule plausible.
Does a seasonal A380 make sense for Hong Kong, or should Singapore Airlines commit to a long‑term return? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
