Starlink Installation

Qatar Airways has completed the Starlink installation programme on 54 Boeing 777 aircraft, keeping its commitment of delivering fast Wi-Fi onboard its aircraft. According to the airline, it is now the operator of the largest number of widebody aircraft equipped with Starlink technology, positioning it as a global leader in Starlink-equipped long-haul and ultra-long-haul connectivity. The airline stated that it is the only carrier in the Middle East and North Africa offering this service.

The Starlink Installation Programme was initially supposed to conclude in two years, however, it was completed in nine months, almost 50% faster than the initial time. The installation process took a little over nine hours per aircraft, and the airline did not have to disrupt operations during the installation. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, chief executive officer of Qatar Airways Group, stated that this was a strategic investment in redefining passengers’ expectations. Al-Meer said that, having completed the rollout of the programme on the Boeing 777s, the airline is now focused on equipping the Airbus A350 fleet with the same Starlink technology, giving this experience to more routes across the airline’s global network of over 170 destinations.

Travellers streaming, gaming, or working will be able to enjoy Wi-Fi speeds of 500 Mbps, both Premium and Economy cabins have access to the free Wi-Fi. Now aiming to equip its Airbus A350 fleet with Starlink installation within next year, the airline has operated over 15,000 Starlink-connected flights since launching the world’s first Starlink-equipped Boeing 777 in October 2024.
