airBaltic named as one of the leading airlines in sustainability

airBaltic was named by Airline Ratings, a consumer-oriented platform that allows passengers to submit airline safety evaluations, reviews, and industry news, as a leading airline in sustainability.

Over the years, airBaltic has kept sustainable practices as a main focus in its values as an airline. With committed efforts to keep environmental footprint at a minimum, the airline introduced modern, cost-effective and fuel-efficient aircraft and completely transformed its aircraft fleet to provide a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to travel.

“Having airBaltic be ranked among the leading airlines in sustainability by AirlineRatings.com motivates us to continue driving positive change for the future of aviation.” said Interim CEO and COO of airBaltic, Pauls Cālītis.

Awards were open to airlines worldwide with flexible submissions. airBaltic was named in the low-cost carrier category as a leading sustainability airline.

Airline Ratings shared that airBaltic’s use of the single-type fleet Airbus A220-300 is 20-25% more fuel efficient than older Airbus generation models, which highlighted their call to action in creating a more environmentally-friendly presence in the aviation industry.

airBaltic has ordered more electric aircraft for its training fleet to keep fuel emissions at an absolute minimum, and has partnered with manufacturers to advance hydrogen propulsion technologies. The airline has also launched a passenger and corporate program to voluntarily contribute to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) usage.

On-ground sustainability efforts are also in place with the aircraft, including reduced flap take-offs, single-engine taxiing, and optimised flight paths. With all of these environmentally friendly efforts combined, airBaltic consistently proves its care for the environment and efforts to reduce emissions in a heavily damaging sector.

“airBaltic’s investment in a single A220 fleet addresses numerous sustainability goals”, and “Overall, their modern, fuel-efficient fleet significantly lowers total emissions and reduces the airline’s carbon footprint,” shared CEO of AirlineRatings.com, Sharon Peterson.
