Korean Air Prepares an Inclusive Menu for Fliers with New Meal Types

From September 1, Korean Air has updated its dietary meals, making the menu inclusive according to the latest health trends. Seven new meal types were introduced, ensuring improved ingredients and preparation methods.

The new menu is a result of a six-month collaboration between Korean Air and the nutrition team at Inha University Hospital. It follows the latest clinical dietary guidelines in alignment with various health conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and hypertension.

A Koren Air representative said:

This meal renewal reflects our commitment to supporting the evolving health and wellness needs of our passengers. By enhancing our dietary meal options, we aim to provide a safer, healthier and more enjoyable in-flight dining experience.

The updated special dietary categories are:

  • Low-fat, low-calorie and diabetic meals: Red meat is replaced with lean proteins such as fish and chicken and antioxidant-rich colourful vegetables. The carbohydrates have been reduced, and vegetable portion sizes are increased to help moderate blood sugar levels.
  • Bland meals: On the basis of passenger feedback, strong spices and high-fat ingredients are excluded, the vegetables are peeled and gently cooked for easier digestion. Also a variety of fresh and juicy fruits are included like watermelon, pear and melon.
  • Gluten-intolerant meals:  To avoid cross contamination, no commercial products produced in facilities that also process wheat flour are used. In dishes like bread and soups, rice flour is used as an alternative to wheat flour.
  • Low-salt meals: To avoid excess salt in dishes, flavours are rather enriched by unsalted butter, plant-based oils, and aromatic vegetables. The total salt content does not exceed 1g (400mg sodium).
  • Low-lactose meals: Upon passenger request, soy milk can be replaced with lactose-free Greek yogurt for breakfast. Other dishes use lactose-free or plant-based alternatives.

Special Dietary Meals

These meals can be accessed on Korean Air’s website or service centre. Available to passengers in all cabin classes flying from Korea. The request can be placed up to 24 hours prior to departure.
