Shareholders of Aerolinee Siciliane have voted on June 20 to dissolve and liquidate the company without ever launching commercial flights. According to a company statement issued on June 25, Ruggero Pastorella has been appointed as liquidator.

Aerolinee Siciliane
Aerolinee Siciliane was a planned regional airline intended to connect Sicily with mainland Italy and Europe. Founded by aviation veteran Luigi Crispino, the project aimed to offer competitive fares and challenge high ticket prices.
The airline originally targeted a June 2020 launch date. Over the years, this target continually slipped to 2021, 2025, and most recently a scheduled debut in May 2026.
Although ticket sales opened briefly in March 2026 for a planned maiden flight in late May 2026 via a partnership with Maltese operator 4Airways, the project failed. Ultimately, on June 20, 2026, the shareholders voted to liquidate the company and the airline never launched.

The Liquidation
The project was officially abandoned due to a combination of rising global aviation hurdles, and soaring fuel prices caused by the Iran war as it made launching the carrier economically unviable.
The shutdown has triggered internal conflicts between corporate leadership and authorities. The airline CEO Luigi Crispino openly accused unnamed administrative bodies of intentionally sabotaging the airline’s take-off, and said that he would make himself available to assist with the liquidation process.
Crispino stated:
“A popular shareholding company is not a private club where scores can be settled or internal power struggles can take place.”
On the airline’s website, Crispino has stated that he is seeking to initiate liability actions against administrative bodies, and has already assembled a team of lawyers to evaluate criminal proceedings.
