Shannon Airport Recognised for Route Development Success

Shortlisted for the Routes World Awards 2026, one of the aviation industry’s most widely regarded honours, Shannon Airport is placed alongside several airports around the world. The nomination reflects the airport’s success in route development, airline partnerships, and marketing initiatives that have driven passenger traffic growth.

This nomination comes during a period of expansion for the Irish airport, which currently serves 40 destinations, its highest total in 17 years, including five new European routes added this year to Madrid, Rome, Frankfurt, Warsaw and Poznan.

CEO of the Shannon Airport Group, Ray O’Driscoll, said the nomination reflects the team’s effort to expand regional transport links and develop strong relationships with airline partners.

What the Nomination Means for Shannon Airport

Airports shortlisted for the Routes World Awards are assessed on a range of criteria, route development strategy, marketing support, commercial performance, innovation and initiatives to stimulate traffic growth, all of which are reflected in the Irish airport’s recent efforts to expand opportunities for both leisure and business travellers.

Located in County Clare, Shannon Airport is one of Ireland’s key international gateways. It serves passengers travelling throughout Europe, North America and beyond, playing a vital role in connecting the Mid-West region with international markets.

The winners of the Routes World Awards 2026 will be announced during the Routes World Networking Evening in Frankfurt, Germany, on Oct. 22, 2026.
