On Friday, April 24, a 51-year-old died after collapsing onboard a Cathay Pacific flight from Manchester to Hong Kong. Flight CX216, was the one in which the passenger lost consciousness on. It departed from Manchester Airport (MAN) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).

Passenger Collapses Before Landing in Hong Kong
Reports came around 6:15 p.m. to the Hong Kong police that a passenger had collapsed onboard the flight, according to the Hong Kong Free Press. Cabin crew alerted Hong Kong’s air traffic control centre which then notified the emergency services to come onboard once the aircraft had landed. The dispatched emergency services attempted resuscitation when the aircraft finally landed at 6:53 a.m. local time at Cathay Pacific.
However, despite best efforts the man was pronounced dead at the scene, the local news outlet HK01 reported.
Hong Kong’s flag carrier, Cathay Pacific, stated:
“The crew and a doctor on board immediately provided first aid; however the passenger had unfortunately passed away.”
The victim was later identified only by his surname, Shen.

Authorities Notified as Investigation Begins
Unnamed sources told HK01 he was an insurance broker that had emigrated to the UK with his family. He had reportedly not been feeling well throughout the journey. His wife, who was travelling alongside him, found him unresponsive two hours before prior landing and alerted the cabin crew.
Authorities have not confirmed the cause of death, however, police have stated during an autopsy, this will be determined.
