Iberia has transported a sculpture of Mafalda, the beloved cartoon character created by Argentine artist Quino, from Buenos Aires to Madrid. The sculpture flew in Business Class on an Airbus A350, Iberia’s most modern and eco-efficient aircraft. This flight marks the arrival of the iconic figure in Spain, where she will soon take up residence in Madrid’s Matadero, a cultural hub in the city.

The sculpture, created by Argentine artist Pablo Irrgang, will be placed on a bench along the central promenade of Matadero as a tribute to Quino. Made from pigmented epoxy resin with quartz, the artwork is designed to withstand outdoor conditions and public interaction. It measures 80 cm tall, 45 cm wide, and 45 cm deep.

Traveling alongside the sculpture, Irrgang surprised passengers who eagerly captured the moment on the special flight. The installation of Mafalda in Madrid will make it the 12th city worldwide to feature the famous character on its streets, underscoring her global cultural influence.

Iberia: Connecting Cultures and Communities

As Spain’s flagship airline, Iberia continues to play a key role in connecting Latin America and Europe. Known for its extensive network and modern fleet, the airline frequently operates flights between Buenos Aires and Madrid, a major route linking two culturally rich cities.

The Airbus A350, the aircraft used for this special journey, represents Iberia’s commitment to sustainability. As the airline’s most advanced and fuel-efficient model, it helps reduce the environmental impact of long-haul flights while maintaining passenger comfort and operational efficiency.

This collaboration between Iberia and the Argentine artist showcases the airline’s dedication to promoting art, culture, and international exchange, further strengthening the ties between Spain and Argentina.
