Lufthansa Expands Its Fleet With Six A350 Aircraft

In a statement released by the airline on April 1, 2025, Lufthansa announced that six advanced Airbus A350-900 aircraft are to be in rotation from July 1st. The first four have already begun transporting passengers since the start of the Summer Flight Schedule.

The additions to the fleet are designed for international destinations leaving from Frankfurt airport (FRA). The new international destinations are as follows:

  • Seoul (ICN)
  • Shanghai (PVG)
  • Denver (DEN)
  • Seattle (SEA)

Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines released a statement saying:

With the temporary deployment of A350 aircraft from Frankfurt, we are closing a gap caused by delayed aircraft deliveries. Lufthansa’s state-of-the-art Airbus aircraft offer an improved travel experience from Frankfurt until new long-haul aircraft are delivered. Over the next 36 months, Lufthansa is expecting the largest fleet renewal in its history. By the end of 2027, 61 new aircraft are scheduled to be added to the fleet. This means an average of one new aircraft every two weeks.

The A350-900 aircraft has several significant changes when compared to its predecessors. One of the more notable of these is that CO2 emissions are 30% lower than previous models. This aids Lufthansa in their 2024 goal of achieving a neutral carbon footprint by 2050.

The Airbus A350-900

The Airbus A350-900 is known as the long-range leader in the aviation world. The aircraft has the ability to fly efficiently on everything from short-haul flights to ultra-long-range flights of up to 18,000 km non-stop.

The aircraft also holds the title of the quietest twin-aisle cabin, benefiting the passenger experience. Other features the aircraft boasts include mood lighting options with 16.7 million colour options.

The shift to the Airbus A350-900 is becoming more common as a result of the aircraft’s ability to provide both flexibility for airlines but also comfort for passengers.

Several different airlines have adopted the A350-900 aircraft including Singapore Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines.

Singapore Airlines CEO, Goh Choon Phong, released a statement praising the aircraft for its support of the airline’s growth:

The A350 is a key element in our overall capacity growth and fleet renewal strategy. Its improved operating efficiency offers us the opportunity to open up even more new routes, providing more travel options to our customers.
