Lufthansa is accelerating celebrations for its 100th anniversary by expanding its growing fleet of specially painted aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s long history. Following the recent arrival of a Boeing 787-9 in commemorative colors, the German flag carrier is set to welcome two more aircraft showcasing the distinctive anniversary livery.

Lufthansa’s Iconic Anniversary Design Takes Shape
The additions underline Lufthansa’s ambition to turn its centenary into a global, airborne showcase across short, medium and long-haul networks.
Lufthansa’s centennial livery features a deep blue fuselage highlighted by an oversized white crane, Lufthansa’s iconic symbol, with wings that visually blend into the aircraft’s own wings. A stylized “100” is integrated into the fuselage on the left side, while the dates “1926 | 2026” appear on the right, reflecting a century of commercial aviation.
An additional “100” is painted on the underside of the aircraft, making the design visible from the ground and adding a unique touch for aviation enthusiasts and plane spotters. The visual identity is designed to honor Lufthansa’s heritage while projecting a modern, confident image for the future.

New Aircraft Join the Celebration
In the coming days, an Airbus A320neo and an Airbus A350-900 will exit the paint shops in Norwich, England, and Chateauroux, France, respectively. The A320neo, registered D-AING, is expected to arrive in Frankfurt on January 19, 2026, before entering regular service. Its inaugural commercial flight in anniversary colors will operate to Larnaca, Cyprus.
The long-haul A350-900, registered D-AIXL, is currently scheduled to arrive in Munich on February 3, 2026, further strengthening Lufthansa’s intercontinental fleet during the landmark year.

Lufthansa’s Anniversary Fleet to Grow Further
The recently delivered Boeing 787-9, registered D-ABPU and named “Berlin,” will begin regular operations on January 20, 2026, with its first flight heading to Mumbai, India. Lufthansa says the aircraft will serve as a “flying ambassador” for the anniversary year on international routes.
Looking ahead, Lufthansa plans to extend the special livery to three additional aircraft by fall 2026: an Airbus A380, a Boeing 747-8, and the airline’s first Airbus A350-1000, due for delivery in October.
