In celebration of Lufthansa’s 100th-year anniversary, the airline has opened a new conference and visitor centre, named Hangar One. Situated in Frankfurt Airport (FRA), the centre will be a space for employees to work together as well as for members of the public to enjoy several attractions.

Unprecedented Success Story

Founded 100 years ago, the airline now employs more than 100,000 people globally. 65% of Lufthansa’s staff are based in Germany, while in Frankfurt alone, Lufthansa employs more than 35,000 people.

Carsten Spohr, CEO of Lufthansa Group, said:

“100 years ago, the founding of the first Lufthansa marked the beginning of an unprecedented success story. From it emerged our present-day Lufthansa Group. With 110,000 employees across 14 airlines today, at Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa Technik, at six hubs in 5 home markets in the heart of Europe.”

Echoing these sentiments, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz commented:

“Lufthansa is an integral part of the history of the Federal Republic and a key company for Germany as a business location. For a century, it has connected people and markets around the world. Lufthansa’s success is above all the merit of over 100,000 Lufthansa employees who, day after day, hour after hour, ensure that passengers and cargo arrive safely. I wish Lufthansa continued success for the next 100 years.”

Other guests at the ceremony included Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder (CDU), Hessian Minister-President Boris Rhein (CDU), and numerous other state government ministers.

Hangar One

The centre will be open to the public from early summer and features attractions such as the Junkers Ju 52 and Lockheed Super Star, two renowned Lufthansa aircraft which have been meticulously restored. The Junkers Ju 52 was operational from 1932 to the 1980s, while the Lockheed Super Star was operational from 1957 to the early 1960s.

Other focal points of Hangar One include several displays from the airline’s history, many shown publicly for the first time.
