Airbus has merged its flight-operations subsidiary Navblue with its digital platform Skywise to form a new integrated services company designed to expand end-to-end digital solutions for airline operations.

The origins of Skywise
The new core mission of Skywise – the fusion of the ‘Sky’ (the domain of flight) with ‘Wise’ (intelligence and foresight), will benefit customers and pilots alike.
Skywise began as an aircraft data platform, before developing into a fully-fledged Airbus digital services company. This new provider is delivering digital solutions for aircraft operators. Navblue (Airbus’ specialist flight operations subsidiary) supported airlines with digital solutions that enabled flight operation teams to plan, execute and optimise flights safely.
CEO of Skywise, Marc Lemeilleur, introduced the merging of the companies:
“By bringing together Skywise’s data capabilities and Navblue’s proven expertise in flight operations, the new company directly supports the drive towards ever-more connected, safe aviation on our decarbonisation journey. As we move toward a future defined by digital integration, Skywise stands firmly on that trajectory.”

Skywise to act as a new digital solutions powerhouse
This strategic move therefore creates a provider readily available for use across: flight operations, technical operations and ground operations.
Leveraging Navblue’s stellar record and legacy, Skywise will aid in flight operations. This ensures a quick, safe and easier option for simple jobs such as crew scheduling (so pilots and cabin crew do not fly past their legal hours). Fuel optimisation and flight planning, calculating the fastest and cheapest routes, while accounting for weather conditions.
Technical operations include the helping of engineering teams to turn complex data into predictive aircraft maintenance, all to keep airlines fleets operating in the air. Skywise will also be responsible for ground operations, including refuelling, catering and baggage handling.
Airbus’ SVP Customer Services, Commercial Aircraft, Cristina Aguilar, claims:
“This new subsidiary, Skywise, is a strategic pivot.”
“According to our latest Global Services Forecast, the digital sector is the fastest-growing segment in the entire services market. Skywise is now the only provider able to offer truly end-to-end data to Airbus and non-Airbus fleets alike.”
As additional benefits, Skywise will also be privy to data from both OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) through the Digital Alliance. The manufacturer involves the companies that built parts, e.g. Airbus. The MRO provide maintenance operations for aircraft parts, answering questions involving breakages, and resolving them by fixing the parts.
