A Nigerian passenger’s dispute with Kenya Airways staff has raised significant concerns following a missed transit visa and issues related to menstrual health. The incident at Nairobi Airport has prompted an official investigation from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, i.e. the NCAA, into the airline’s handling of the situation.
Visa Mistake and Alternative Offered
Ms Omisore was travelling from Lagos to Manchester, with a layover in Nairobi Airport, when Kenya Airways staff allowed her to board despite a missing transit visa. The oversight was only discovered once the flight landed at Nairobi Airport. Kenya Airways offered her a rerouted flight through London, which she declined due to health concerns and an extended waiting period.

Menstrual Health and Alleged Insensitivity
When informed of the delay, Ms Omisore explained her need for care as she was menstruating. She felt dismissed when staff questioned her condition and demanded evidence. Frustrated, Ms Omisore reportedly placed used menstrual health products on the desk as proof, although Kenya Airways initially claimed the items were thrown at their staff. Later, they admitted their earlier statement was misleading.

NCAA Investigates Kenya Airways’ Handling of the Situation
The NCAA eventually summoned the airline to clarify the allegations. The airline acknowledged its fault and apologised for mishandling the situation. The NCAA highlighted the importance of adhering to customer service protocols and ensuring the safe travel of passengers, particularly in medical situations.
