Direct flights between Iran and the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) are set to restart from July 1, 2026.

Reviving Routes
According to Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation, both Iran and U.A.E. cleared the passage between the two countries after ongoing regional conflicts resulted in temporary suspension of the route. No confirmation or commentary has been issued by Dubai’s Civil Aviation Authority as of yet.
The previous ceasefire in April resulted in the temporary reopening of some Middle Eastern airspaces, and similarly, the temporary ceasefire signed by the U.S. and Iran in mid June has reinstated potential travel opportunity to the region. Iranian state media has reported that from July 1, direct flights between Tehran and Dubai have begun reoperating, initially at a lower than standard capacity. This information emerges after the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reportedly received a phone call from Abbas Araghchi, his Iranian counterpart, to discuss updated regional developments amidst the turbulent socio-political environment.
A spokesperson for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation, Majid Akhavan, commented that the reopening of the route came from extensive negotiations via a strong diplomatic channel. Akhaven also highlighted that the required permits had been issued by Iranian and Emirati aviation authorities already, and the flights would begin with only Iranian airlines as carriers, but would then be extended to other carriers pending a review. Following the successful discussions, Akhavan added, the opening of other international air routes was still being examined, and would depend on regulatory approval.

Resuming Relationships?
The flight link had been disrupted during a period of intensified tension resulting from a series of interrelated wars, conflicts, and heightened instability in the Middle Eastern region. Regional military tensions and drone and missile attacks for the last few months have caused significant changes in lifestyle and society, including the closure of airspace, which impacted trade and suspended travel.
In a separate announcement, an Iranian trade official confirmed that containers were now being cleared from the U.A.E.’s Jebel Ali Port for shipment to Iran, which had previously been delayed as a result of the turbulent conditions. The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Iran’s state news agency, confirmed this, having also reported that cargo clearance had resumed after a multitude of US airstrikes, and a reported attack on a cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
The official further commented that trade could be expected to gradually recover to pre-war levels in the near future. This, alongside flights between U.A.E. and Iran set to resume, potentially hints at a restoration of standard cooperation and interaction within the aviation sector.
