Emirates’ Airbus A380 made its first-ever visit to Jakarta, Indonesia on Aug. 8, 2026, flying in as a special one-off service to carry AC Milan back to Italy after the club’s pre-season friendly against Chelsea. The match was part of Indonesia’s 2026 summer pre-season tour.
Emirates’ A380 makes history
Many could be spotted at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) rejoicing in the touchdown of the aircraft in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Emirates’ Airbus A380 arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) on Aug. 8, 2026, before departing after 12.00 a.m. on Aug. 9, 2026. Therefore, completing the first route journey in Indonesia.
Although the visit was brief, the A380’s historic debut attracted substantial interest from plane spotters and aviation enthusiasts. Emirates’ Airbus A380, is a large, double-decker, four-engine aircraft designed for long haul flights. The aircraft has large passenger capacity and is well suited to busy international routes such as Indonesia. The Airbus A380, offers Economy, Business and First Class cabins with attractive onboard amenities such as entertainment, meals and WiFi, with Business and First Class providing further and greater comfort facilities. This official debut recognises yet another milestone in Emirates’ three-decade journey of connecting Indonesia to the world.
Emirates’ Statement and Relationship with Indonesia
Majid Alfalasi, Emirates’ country manager for Indonesia, commented on the airline’s immense pride to welcome the Emirates’ A380 for the first time. In a statement, he said:
“This is a celebration of Emirates’ passionate commitment to football and reflects our continued efforts in bringing unforgettable experiences to the Indonesian community. We hope that AC Milan fans and aviation enthusiasts across Indonesia will cherish this memorable moment.”
Emirates has served Indonesia since 1992, which displays a 30-year-long relationship between the airline and the country. Indonesia is home to the popular island of Bali, which receives around 6 to 7 million foreign tourists annually.
The Emirates airline currently operates 14 weekly flights between Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) and Dubai. The airline also provides two daily services between Denpasar’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) and Dubai (DXB). Through Dubai, Emirates offers onward connections to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.
