EME Aero has announced plans to increase its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capacity for its Pratt and Whitney engines. The joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and MTU Aero Engines also added the opening and entry into service of its second test cell.

EME Aero Expansion
With an investment of over $37 million by EME Aero and its shareholders, the expanded facility is expected to service over 500 engines per year starting from 2028. The equal joint venture began its first engine service in December 2019, servicing a PW1100G-JM. Following this development was the servicing of a PW1500G engine in 2022, and the PW1900G in 2023. According to Michael Schreyögg, the chief program officer at MTU Aero Engine, there is a great market demand for the company’s newest generation of engines, with orders of over 12,000 GTF engines. Since it began operations, the company has grown to become one of the leading GTF engine MRO providers worldwide in five years and continues to grow, marking its fifth year of operations in 2024. in December 2024. “EME Aero is an efficient, reliable and expert member of the GTF MRO family. This is an excellent further step in expanding capabilities and continuing to support operators and customers long-term as the in-service fleet continues to grow. As demonstrated by the strong order volume recently at the Paris Air Show, there is great market demand for this newest generation of engines. In total, over 12,000 GTF engine orders and commitments have been placed with Pratt & Whitney by more than 90 customers globally to date, of which nearly 1,100 this year alone.”

Located in Jasionka, near Rzeszów, Poland, EME Aero is a 50/50 joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and MTU Aero Engines. The company officially began operations in 2020, however, it was established in December 2017 where the founding agreement was signed. Construction of the company began in June 2018 and its first engine induction was in December 2019. Following this was its official launch in January 2020 and its first PW1500G engine service in April 2022.
