Codeshare Agreement Extension

According to Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Mark Galardo, the intermodal transportation will provide customers with more travel options as well as make it easier for them to reach their final destination, giving passengers a mixture of both air and rail travel, enhancing their travel experience. The rail service is expected to give customers more flexibility.

The agreement allows customers to book a streamlined intermodal itinerary—combining both air and rail travel—under a single reservation. Travelers can customize their schedules and make bookings directly on Air Canada’s website or through a travel agent. Lufthansa Express Rail services will be available as part of their itinerary when arriving at or departing from Frankfurt Airport. This enhanced codeshare builds on Air Canada’s existing collaboration with Lufthansa Express Rail and includes integration with the Deutsche Bahn Rail & Fly program.

Mark Galardo said:

“Our intermodal connections provide customers with more travel options and make it easier for them to reach their final destinations. By elevating our partnership to a codeshare, we enhance the travel experience for our customers, enabling them to book through Air Canada for both air and rail travel.”

Air Canada’s Intermodal Transportation

In 2023, Air Canada introduced air-to-rail booking, giving customers access to intermodal travel through partnerships across eight countries. These included Italy’s Trenitalia, Spain’s Renfe, France’s TGV-SNCF Voyageurs, Germany’s Deutsche Bahn, South Korea’s KORAIL KTX, Swiss Federal Railways, Austria’s ÖBB, and various rail operators in the United Kingdom, as well as its leading coach operator, the National Express. Through new collaborations with AccessRail and WorldTicket, and Air Canada’s partnership with Lufthansa Express Rail product, customers can now customise their voyage on Air Canada’s website that connects their flights with trips on trains or coaches.
