Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer announces the largest onsite solar energy generation project in their U.S. headquarters, taking a big step towards the company’s vision of a low-carbon economy in the foreseeable future.
Onsite Solar Panels at Embraer U.S. Base
The company announced a collaboration with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) to install onsite solar energy generating systems in their academy in Melbourne, Florida. This project marks the first of Embraer’s solar energy generation projects across their global facilities.
Michael Amalfitano, President and CEO of Embraer Executive Jets, expects the project to increase the facility’s efficiency:
Transitioning a significant portion of our Melbourne campus energy consumption to a more sustainable model will improve our operational efficiency, ensuring that our industry-leading business jets are backed by an infrastructure as advanced as the aircraft themselves.
The solar installation can supply up to 1,800 MWh/year – the majority of the energy needed to power the company’s Customer Center facility.
Embraer Strategic Development Vision: 100% Renewable Energy by 2030
Following the trend of sustainable development, Embraer has plans ahead. The company holds a vision of converting the company’s energy sources to renewable ones by 2030. Earlier, Embraer announced its strategic development vision, including investment in new MRO facilities. They are also actively expanding into regional markets for commercial aircraft.
The new solar energy generation system in Melbourne, Florida, is expected to start operations by the end of 2025.
