Dubai International Airport (DXB) handled 31.5 million passengers during the first half of 2026, down 31.3 percent from the same period in 2025, after regional airspace restrictions linked to the conflict in the Middle East reduced scheduled capacity earlier in the year. Air traffic picked up through the second quarter as airline capacity returned and connectivity improved following the easing of those restrictions.

About air passenger traffic at DXB

As passenger traffic soared to 13 million in the second quarter, overall monthly volumes rose from 3.5 million in April to 4.5 million in May and 5 million in June. This marked a significant increase in air passenger traffic and highlighted how demand for flights had risen consistently.

Dubai Airports praised the return of several international carriers, which strengthened connectivity during the recovery period.

The first half of the year tested every part of the aviation system, Dubai Airports said, underscoring the need for foresight and planning to manage future disruptions. However, as capacity for air passenger traffic has increased in Q2, demand for flights is projected to increase in both the short and long-term. Overall, this trend will reinforce DXB’s position as an aviation hub.

Consequently, by the end of June, DXB was linked to 50 global airlines connecting passengers to over 200 destinations, adding to the aviation hub‘s international atmosphere.

Performance highlights accompanied by continued issues at DXB

There were over 150,000 aircraft movements during the first six months of 2026. However, first-half aircraft movements have fallen by 32.1 percent compared with last year. Similarly, cargo volumes were down by 28.7 percent compared to 2025.

Nevertheless, operational performance was somewhat better as DXB handled 30.3 million bags, including about 12.7 million during the second quarter.

DXB plans to continue its investments, including passenger facilities, a better departures experience, more self-service options and enhanced biometrics, all of which will help support the airport’s capacity growth targets in the long term.
