With the early May Bank Holiday weekend only one more sleep away, Cirium has released their analytical report on the flights scheduled to depart the UK over the short break. The statistics also look back to the departures of Easter weekend, presenting a higher number of departures in comparison.

Cirium’s Data
Aviation analytics organisation, Cirium, has reported that more flights are planned to depart UK airports over the early May Bank Holiday weekend, than were scheduled over the Easter weekend. With 11,746 flights taking off over 2-5 May, these numbers are nearly five-hundred more against Easter’s 11,278 flights, and equate to over two-million seats.
Friday 2 May is set to be the busiest day for UK departures over the bank holiday weekend, with 3,099 flights taking off. Heathrow Airport will see the largest number of departures at 2,689, followed by Gatwick, Manchester and Stansted. Trips to Europe are undeniably the perfect way to spend the long weekend, with the most popular destinations for UK departures being Dublin, Amsterdam, Palma, Malaga and Alicante, in order.
These numbers of departures from UK airports are down by six-percent in comparison to the early May Bank Holiday weekend in 2019, pre-pandemic. 2019 saw 12,430 departing flights – presenting a shortfall of 684 flights six years later. However, the aviation and travel industries continue to show a marked recovery, with departures rising two-percent from the same weekend last year, where there were 11,549 flights.
