EasyJet will speed up its launch to phase-out its remaining A319-100s by one year. The plan is to exit the type’s operations by the end of September 2029.

EasyJet to Phase Out Airbus A319 Fleet Earlier than Planned

The airline said that the exit acceleration is being made possible by deliveries of the A320neo family aircraft. This is because its estimated to generate approximately £250 million ($336 million) in the financial year of 2027 and 2028. EasyJet had previously planned to exit the A319 type by 2030.

The A319 was easyJet’s mainstream fleet, more than three-quarters of all aircraft at its peak in 2010-2011. EasyJet began taking A319s in 2004 to replace the legacy B737-300s. The B737-700s in ch-aviation data shows the LCC currently operates 44 A319s via the easyJet UK AOC.

EasyJet Expands to Next Generation Fleet with Fuel Efficient Aircraft

The aircraft will be gradually replaced with A320-200Ns and A321-200NX allowing the airline to upgrade its fleet.

Chief Financial Officer, Jan De Raeymaeker, stated:

“By replacing our A319 sub-fleet with more efficient A320neo family aircraft, we are structurally improving returns across the business. An A320neo delivers a 24% reduction in fuel burn paper seat compared to an A319, increasing to around 30% for an A321neo.”

The airline’s new-generation fleet currently comprises 76 A320-200Ns and 24 A321-200NX across Britain, Austria and easyJet Switzerland. The airline has hundreds of additional A320neo family aircraft still on order as part of its long-term fleet renewal programme.
