Kuehne+Nagel has added Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) to its transatlantic rotation, with weekly flights operated by Atlas Air. The updated “Inspire” global flight rotation connects six major strategic hubs, maximising routing efficiency and creating connections between advanced supply chains.

Transatlantic Operations
Kuehne+Nagel (Kühne+Nagel) is one of the world’s leading global transport and logistics companies, headquartered in Switzerland.
Kuehne+Nagel officially added FRA to its own-controlled transatlantic charter flight operations in June 2026 by launching a new weekly flight rotation. The new route is a weekly loop linking Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Frankfurt International, and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL).
The service is operated by Atlas Air under a long-term charter agreement using the “Inspire”, a Boeing 747-8 freighter, which provides roughly 140 tonnes of cargo capacity. According to the company, the route serves to connect major pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution hubs in the U.S. and Europe.

Atlas Air
Atlas Air is a major American cargo airline, passenger charter operator, and aircraft lessor based in Purchase, New York, and is connected as the aircraft operator under a long-term strategic partnership. While Kuehne+Nagel owns the commercial rights to the cargo space, Atlas Air provides the operational assets and flight crews.
In 2022, Kuehne+Nagel entered into an agreement to charter the exclusive, 100% capacity of two dedicated cargo planes from Atlas Air. Atlas Air Worldwide president and CEO John W. Dietrich stated:
“We are delighted to expand our partnership with Kuehne+Nagel by providing dedicated capacity for their growing global airfreight network.”
The two aircraft provided by Atlas Air, registered as N862GT and N863GT, are historic because they are the very last two Boeing 747 aircraft ever built by Boeing before the production line permanently closed:
- “Inspire” (the first plane, delivered in late 2022): Operated directly by Atlas Air for Kuehne+Nagel’s main network, which includes the new Frankfurt-Chicago-Atlanta transatlantic loop.
- “Empower” (the final 747 ever built, delivered in early 2023): operated by Atlas Air on behalf of Apex Logistics International, a Kuehne+Nagel subsidiary.

The Benefits
Atlas Air operating the route using the Boeing 747-8 freighter allows Kuehne+Nagel to secure massive payload space, as it does not have to rely on commercial passenger belly space or spot-market cargo availability. Due to there being a growing global shortage of widebody freighters, by locking in Atlas Air’s dedicated assets long-term, Kuehne+Nagel doesn’t have to compete for cargo space during peak shipping seasons.
As it is a weekly service, Atlas Air also maintains a fixed, predictable rotation, whose consistency ensures transit schedules for time-critical industries. This direct hub-to-hub route will avoid multi-stop routings and safeguard temperature-sensitive healthcare goods.
As Frankfurt handles roughly 2 million tonnes of cargo annually, it is Europe’s premier gateway for high-value logistics. Landing at Frankfurt integrates the transatlantic route with Kuehne+Nagel’s European road feeder network. This layout also speeds up onward distribution to Central and Eastern Europe.
