The European Commission has urged airlines and member states to prepare for “all scenarios” as uncertainty surrounding jet fuel supply continues. The warning highlights growing concern over potential disruption to aviation across Europe.

Contingency Planning Across Europe

The European Commission is working closely with airlines and national authorities to coordinate a response to the evolving jet fuel situation. While there is no immediate indication of widespread shortages, officials have stressed the importance of readiness should conditions deteriorate.

Airlines have been advised to remain flexible in operations, with contingency plans in place to manage potential supply disruptions. This includes reviewing fuel logistics, ensuring access to alternative supply routes, and maintaining close communication with regulators.

The Commission is also assessing measures to support operational continuity, including guidance on fuel management practices and coordination between member states to avoid uneven distribution across the region.

Ongoing Uncertainty in Global Fuel Supply

The warning comes amid continued instability in global energy markets, with aviation fuel supply chains facing pressure from geopolitical tensions and disrupted shipping routes. Key transit points for fuel deliveries remain vulnerable, creating uncertainty over both availability and pricing.

As a result, airlines are already experiencing increased fuel costs, which may impact fares and scheduling in the coming months. While some carriers have implemented fuel hedging strategies to mitigate price volatility, others remain exposed to sudden cost increases.

The situation is particularly concerning ahead of the peak summer travel season, when demand for air travel typically rises. Any further disruption could lead to reduced capacity, higher ticket prices, or operational challenges across European networks.

Although flights are not currently at risk of widespread disruption, the European Commission’s warning reflects a cautious approach to an unpredictable situation. With jet fuel supply still uncertain, airlines and governments alike are preparing for potential challenges that could shape travel across Europe in the months ahead.
