German airline Lufthansa has announced it will retrofit a total of 38 Airbus A320s by 2029. By providing a modernised cabin on short and medium haul routes, as well as on long haul flights, the airline is aiming to provide more customers with a premium travel experience.

Premium Experience

The aircraft are set to be fitted with new seats from Italian manufacturer Geven, USB ports, larger overhead cabins and tablet and smartphone holders. The fleet of 38 aircraft have been undergoing retrofits since last Spring, with the first retrofitted aircraft, “Zulu Yankee”, now back in scheduled service.

Jens Ritter, Lufthansa CEO, spoke about the modernisation, commenting:

Our ambition is clear: We want to offer our guests a premium experience on short- and medium-haul routes as well. The A320 family is our largest fleet – that’s why we’re investing in the modernization of more than 30 aircraft. We’re presenting our guests with a modern, high-quality cabin whose design is inspired by our new long-haul deliveries. Our guests can look forward to more comfort and significantly more space for their carry-on baggage.

Ergonomically Designed Seats

Passengers will enjoy a more comfortable flight, with Geven manufactured seats featuring horizontally adjustable headrests and, in Business Class, a backrest that reclines especially far.

The new cabin will feature overhead bins that are 40% larger meaning that baggage can now be stored vertically.

Every seat will also feature both USB-A and USB-C ports allowing accessibility for phones to be charged, as well as a holder for tablets and smartphones.
