As it celebrates 100 years of operations, American Airlines has been announced as the first-ever Official Airline of the annual conference hosted by Women in Aviation International (WAI). American Airlines has been designated the primary and formally recognised airline partner for the annual conference, this is a milestone that falls in the carrier’s 100th year.

The power of the female voice

The 37th Women in Aviation International Conference (WAI2026) will take place from 19–21 March, 2026 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Centre in Grapevine, part of the wider Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The three-day event is expected to attract around 5,000 aviation and aerospace professionals, students, and industry leaders from across the globe

Women in Aviation International is the world’s largest nonprofit organisation dedicated to advancing women across the aviation and aerospace sectors. The organisation has more than 20,000 members spanning 120 countries. WAI focuses on career development, education and strengthening the industry’s workforce progress into the future.

Cole Brown, American’s chief people officer, said:

“At American, we believe building culture where women and girls are represented, empowered and able to thrive as leaders is vital to the future of our industry.”

Companies with gender-diverse executive teams are significantly more likely to outperform financially. Research shows that organisations with women occupying at least 30% of leadership roles are 39% more likely to have above average profitability compared with those with the least gender diversity. This advantage is linked to broader perspectives, collaborative decision making and enhanced problem solving. According to the McKinsey data set, which was first issued in 2015, with follow-up reports in 2017-18, it is based on an ongoing series of reports that McKinsey has updated.

Industry Impact

Gender representation remains a key focus across the global aviation industry, particularly in technical and leadership roles, where women are still underrepresented. The industry’s growth relies on women‘s voices being heard at every level. The partnership between American Airlines and WAI highlights that meaningful progress requires hands-on, visible commitment and hard work. It will create careers, increase brand visibility, support women in technical roles, funded scholarships.

Thanks to platforms such as WAI, women will be able to step into leadership positions such as director of flight operations, pilot, crew training and a vast range of important roles. This reinforces the importance of representation in shaping the future of aviation.
