Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, has confirmed plans to purchase up to 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, marking the airline’s largest-ever single aircraft order. The deal represents a major step in Air Astana’s long-term fleet modernization strategy and underscores its ambitions to expand internationally.

Largest Aircraft Order in Air Astana’s History
In addition to the direct purchase, the airline will acquire three more Dreamliner‘s through leasing agreements, bringing the total number of 787-9s in its fleet to 18.
This move will significantly enhance Air Astana’s capacity and efficiency across long-haul routes connecting Central Asia, Europe, and Asia.

Strengthening Global Connectivity
Air Astana’s CEO, Peter Foster, described the order as a transformative milestone for the airline:
“Air Astana is strategically committed to boosting its service capabilities from Central Asia and the Caucasus to Asia, Europe, and the rest of the world over the next decade. With its customer-friendly cabin, fuel efficiency, and range flexibility, the Boeing 787-9 will become an outstanding success with our airline and its discerning passengers.”
The airline currently operates three Boeing 767 aircraft on international routes to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
The addition of the Dreamliner fleet will allow Air Astana to phase out older models and operate more sustainable, longer-range flights.

Boeing Partnership and Future Outlook
Boeing officials welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the company’s long-standing relationship with Air Astana.
Paul Righi, Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales for Eurasia and India, said:
Boeing airplanes have been integral to Air Astana’s operations from the beginning. The 787 Dreamliner will further strengthen the airline’s operational efficiency while supporting Central Asia’s growing role in global aviation.”
With the first Dreamliner scheduled for delivery next year, Air Astana is positioning itself as a key regional hub airline.
