Around 5 pm, 8 September, Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 was evacuated in response to a “possible hazardous materials incident” at the check-in area. The terminal was later reopened at 8 pm following the latest update from the airport.

Terminal 4 Evacuation: “Potential Hazardous Materials Incident”
With earlier incidents of “possible hazardous materials” found at the check-in area of Terminal 4, Heathrow has announced that the terminal is currently evacuated, and advised travellers not to travel to the terminal while staff assist travellers on site.
A spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade provided more information on the situation:
“Specialist crews have been deployed to carry out an assessment of the scene, and part of the airport has been evacuated as a precaution whilst firefighters respond.”
An hour following the incident outbreak, Heathrow has updated on the situation: Terminal 4 is reopened and all flights scheduled for today will depart accordingly.

Other Terminals Operating Normally
With the latest updates, travellers can now resume travelling to Terminal 4. However, it is advised that travellers confirm with their airline on the latest updates to their journey.
This is the second incident at Heathrow this year that has caused travel disruption to passengers using the airport.
Travellers are advised to check the latest news updates on travel disruption.
