Lufthansa City Airlines welcomed its first brand-new Airbus A320neo, named “Ingelheim am Rhein,” at the Airbus factory in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. The aircraft was registered as D-AIJP.

About the new Airbus

The new Airbus A320neo will begin operations in May. The aircraft will offer spaces for 180 passengers and will feature a new Airspace cabin with larger overhead bins, advanced lighting, and improved seating comfort.

The addition of the A320neo takes Lufthansa City Airlines’ fleet to eight aircraft: four Airbus A319s, and four Airbus A320neos.

By the end of 2025, the fleet will total 15 aircraft with the delivery of five more brand-new Airbus A320neos and two additional Airbus A320neos. The airline also anticipates taking delivery of the first of 40 Airbus A220-300s later in 2026.

Expansion in Summer 2025

In tandem with expanding fleets, Lufthansa City Airlines is also expanding its number of destinations. Seven more cities – Barcelona, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Düsseldorf, Rome, Edinburgh, Seville, and Bordeaux – will feature in the summer 2025 flight schedule. The air network will accommodate a total number of 17 destinations.

The airline will also open another base in Frankfurt in 2026, which will further support its market position and enable the expansion of long-haul routes.

Lufthansa City Airlines Managing Director Peter Albers said:

“Our new aircraft is an additional motivation and encouragement for the commitment and outstanding performance of all our employees, who contribute to the success and expansion of our airline on a daily basis.”
