Emirates is now recognised as a global Autism-certified airline. On Oct. 16, 2026, the airline hosted a travel rehearsal at El Dorado International Airport, the first time such a programme like this has been implemented in Colombia. Emirates has launched the El Dorado+ Accessible project to make travel more accessible and support passengers with Autism.

How Emirates’ travel rehearsal helps Autistic individuals
The travel rehearsal initiative is designed to help passengers with accessibility needs take part in a step-by-step simulation of the air travel process. It familiarises participants with airport procedures and the onboard experience ahead of their journey. For individuals with Autism, the programme has been particularly impactful.
By moving through each stage of the airport journey, individuals with Autism gained practical understanding of baggage drop, check-in, security and boarding. In addition, participants stepped onboard an Emirates aircraft, interacted with cabin crew and completed a simulated arrival process, including baggage reclaim and customs procedures.
The project has created a more supportive environment for Autistic travellers and strengthened accessibility, equality and inclusion efforts within global aviation. Delivered jointly by Emirates and El Dorado International Airport (BOG), the initiative highlights how coordinated planning and collaboration can improve the travel process for passengers with Autism.

Emirates, the Autism-certified airline
Emirates, recognised as the world’s first Autism-certified airline, has trained 35,000 cabin crew and ground staff to support the needs of individuals with Autism. The training equips employees with an understanding of the Autism spectrum and the challenges some passengers may face when travelling, enabling staff to apply appropriate support strategies throughout the journey.
The approach positions Emirates as proactive in meeting diverse passenger needs and strengthening accessibility across its global network.
