Embraer has finalised an agreement with Intelsat to install a high-speed in-flight connectivity system on E-Jet E2s during production.
About the new WiFi system
The WiFi, with speeds up to 275Mbps, will deliver passengers a home-like in-flight streaming and surfing experience.
Intelsat’s product is the first multi-orbit to use an Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antenna improving coverage, speed, and dependability. The antenna will be available for line fitting later this year.
The ESA antenna is low-profile and lightweight, resulting in reduced drag and fuel consumption.
Intelsat’s low-Earth orbit (LEO) constellation has minimal latency and provides worldwide coverage, including in the polar areas. The geosynchronous (GEO) constellation is well-suited for densely populated areas.
Intelsat’s director of OEM programs Rob Baird said:
“Intelsat is the first multi-orbit satellite inflight connectivity system with an ESA antenna to be installed at the Embraer factory. Passengers on Embraer E2 aircraft will soon enjoy high-speed internet access from the clouds, thanks to our wide coverage and low latency.”
