JetBlue Airways has increased its checked baggage fees for the second time in 2026, adding to travel costs for passengers ahead of the busy holiday period. The new charges took effect on Nov. 3 for newly purchased tickets, with the first checked bag now costing at least $50 on most domestic routes, up from $39.

How Much More Will JetBlue Passengers Pay?
Under the revised fee structure, passengers traveling within the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean will pay $50 for their first checked bag during off-peak periods when purchased more than 24 hours before departure. The fee raises to $55 during peak travel periods. The second checked bag also costs more, with advance fees increasing to $70 during off-peak periods and $75 during peak periods, additional charges may apply to passengers checking a third bag or traveling with oversized or overweight luggage.
The higher rates apply to tickets purchased after Nov. 3. Passengers who booked their flights before that date will retain the previous baggage fees for those reservations, the new peak pricing will affect travelers during several busy periods, including Thanksgiving, from Nov. 19-30, and the winter holiday period, from Dec. 17 through Jan. 18.

Rising Operating Costs Drive Another Fee Increase
JetBlue said the latest increase is intended to offset higher fuel and operating expenses while keeping base fares competitive:
“This helps us keep our base fares competitive while giving customers the choice to pay for a checked bag only if they need one,” and airline spokesperson told CBS News.
Some customers remain eligible for complimentary checked baggage, such as JetBlue Plus, Business and Premier credit cardholders whom receive a free first checked bag on eligible flights; members of its TrueBlue Mosaic loyalty program receive baggage benefits based on their status. Passengers traveling in eligible Mint and BlueFirst fare categories also receive complimentary baggage allowances.
JetBlue previously increased baggage fees in March, citing rising operating costs. Other major U.S. airlines, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines, also raised baggage charges earlier this year.
With Thanksgiving approaching, the latest increase adds another expense for passengers planning holiday trips, particularly families and travelers who need to check multiple suitcases.
