Conflict broke out between flight attendants on a routine Delta Air Lines connection flight DL5090 from South Carolina to Michigan on Tuesday evening. The captain of the flight requested immediate ground staff intervention prior to landing.

What happened?

Operated by Endeavour Air, the flight departed Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) on Tuesday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m. local time and was bound for Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW).

During the aircraft’s, a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR regional jet, final approach into Detroit, Michigan, the flight deck crew contacted ground staff to request that in-flight management and supervisory staff meet the aircraft directly at the gate.

The captain, who communicated the request to ground staff, said:

“We are experiencing conflict issues among the flight attendants and will likely need to separate them to prevent further escalation or an incident.”

Despite the internal conflict inside the cabin, the aircraft landed safely without further disruptions on runway 21L a few minutes later. The aircraft taxied to Gate C21, where in-flight management personnel were already waiting to meet the cabin crew members and address the situation.

The cause of the conflict remains unclear.

Delta Air Lines’ eventful week

On top of the conflict, it has been quite an eventful week for Delta Air Lines.

To start the week off, on Monday, Delta flight attendants sustained injuries on flight DL1820 from Liberia, Costa Rica, to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Caused by severe turbulence that lasted around ten seconds, several crew members lost their balance, with one sustaining a tailbone injury from a fall. Despite the turbulence, the aircraft remained on route and later landed safely.

On the same day as the flight attendants’ conflict, Delta flight DL234 received an “anonymous message” reportedly warning crew members that a suspicious device was onboard. The flight departed as normal and landed safely in Tel Aviv, Israel. Passengers were made to evacuate the aircraft quickly after authorities received an anonymous claim reporting that an explosive was in the plane’s cargo hold.

What are your thoughts on the flight attendants’ conflict that prompted the captain to request ground control? What about the eventful week of incidents Delta has had? Let us know in the comments.
