Resuming the route

TAP Air Portugal‘s first flight return to Porto Alegre ran on April 1.

The route operates three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Flight TP117 from Lisbon to Porto Alegre is scheduled to take off at 1:05 p.m. and arrive in Porto Alegre at 8:25 p.m. The journey takes 11 hours and 20 minutes.

Flight TP118 from Porto Alegre to Lisbon is scheduled to depart at 9:55 p.m. and arrive in Lisbon at 12:45 p.m.

The flight operates using the modern A330-900 neo aircraft which can fly up to 298 passengers.

It is a milestone of reconnection between the two cities after Salgado Filho International Airport (POA) closed due to flooding last May in Porto Alegre. The runway has resumed air traffic since October.

Including Porto Alegre, the airline currently operates 15 direct flight routes between Portugal and Brazil, covering 13 Brazilian cities, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belém.

TAP Air Portugal CEO Luís Rodrigues said:

“We had promised that we would make every effort to get this route operating again as soon as possible. Here we are, ready to reconnect this state to Europe. May this route symbolise a new future for Porto Alegre and for TAP.”

Echoing these sentiments, State Governor of Rio Grande do Sul Eduardo Leite said:

“After facing one of the most challenging times in our history, seeing our capital once again connected directly to Europe demonstrates the world’s confidence in our recovery. This route strengthens our historical and cultural ties with Portugal and also opens up new opportunities for tourism and international business.”
