Recently collapsed carrier, Flybe, has revealed their HQ will now be based in Birmingham Airport, United Kingdom and will serve “key regions across the UK and European Union” securing most of the slots it used to hold; These slots include links to Amsterdam, Exeter, Belfast City and Luxembourg, though specific routes have not been detailed as of yet.
This comes as welcome news to all as the once fledging carrier will be returning to the air in early 2022 after going into administration in March 2020. However, with the company’s remaining assets and business being acquired by Thyme Opco afterwards, there was a glimmer of hope for the carrier, and everyone has poured a lot of resources and determination to bring it back to life. The re-birthed carrier setting up shop in Birmingham will now undergo a strong recruitment drive and create 200 jobs, fuelling the economy in the local area and more widely across the UK.
Flybe chief executive Dave Pflieger said: “Today’s announcement marks the culmination of over 12 months of dedicated hard work by all involved, and it would not have been possible without the support of the CAA and the UK government.”
“As for what’s next, please stay tuned. We plan to provide more information in the coming weeks and months about ticket prices, new routes and destinations, and other important news that will help customers visit loved ones, get away for a weekend, and get out on business trips. This is an incredibly exciting time for us, and we look forward to sharing more updates in the future.” Pflieger adds.
