This Saturday, on October 16, eligible New Zealanders, in what is being called “Super Saturday” will have the opportunity to get their Covid-19 vaccine at a unique location, in an Air New Zealand 787 aircraft at Auckland Airport.

The excitement doesn’t stop there though with the airline glitzing up the experience and making it a more exciting, positive one by offering complimentary snacks and drinks served by Air New Zealand crew members and a commemorative boarding pass that will entitle them to a tour of the 787 aircraft and Auckland Airport’s hangar that the special vaccination clinic will be held.

Jabaseat will be available to those who haven’t had their first round of vaccinations yet and seats are limited. In a statement released by the airline, “the one-of-a-kind offering is open to anyone in the Auckland area who is eligible for a vaccine, hasn’t gotten one already and is able to sign up through the national Air New Zealand portal. Once they have registered for their jab, they will see ‘Air New Zealand Jabaseat’ listed as a potential clinic.”

“Everyone across the motu (islands) has a role to play to protect Aotearoa/New Zealand against Covid-19 by getting vaccinated, and we’re calling for a massive collective effort to make this happen,” Tamati Sheppard-Wipiiti, Group Manager of Equity for the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 Vaccine and Immunisation Program, said in a press statement.

What an eventful weekend it will be for Aucklanders, but hosting vaccination centres in unusual places isn’t the first time though, with New York residents getting shots underneath the famous blue whale at the American Museum of Natural History and Stockholmers were able to get vaccinated in the Nobel Prize Banquet Hall.

Travel Radar is hoping more events like this pop up around the world to encourage the uptake of vaccinations and make it less of an industrious experience. The extra add-ons is a far cry from the in-and-out process most people have had.
