What made the headlines of aviation news last week? Here’s a summary…

  • Boeing’s troubles continue with an investigation as to whether they intentionally misled the FAA about the MCAS software.
    • ….and FOD in the MAX fuel tanks.
    • But…. Bamboo of Vietnam places an order for the 777x.
    • And perhaps not quite the end of the line for the Queen of the Skies? American start-up Avatar plans low-cost operations with used 747-400s and plans to buy 30 747-8s.
    • An anniversary for the much-loved 757.
  • Financially, there were issues; the Italian flag-carrier Alitalia continues to struggle on, but there are some ‘green shoots’ to prompt some optimism.
    • Air France/KLM Group reports financial headwinds after massive fine.
    • Airbus Space and Military division cuts employees around Europe amidst a flat market.
    • As the coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis continues to reverberate, the Chinese government considers taking over the HNA group, parent of Hainan and Hong Kong Airlines.
  • The Airbus A330-800 is certified by the FAA and EASA.
  • Perhaps it’s the cold? Wheels fall off at Air Canada.
