Low-cost carrier Wizz Air announced a new direct route from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Chișinău International Airport (RMO) in the Moldovan capital, with fares from £37. The new year-round service will operate four times a week.
Wizz Air’s new route to Chișinău via London Gatwick is available to book from August 2026 and is one of the carrier’s three new routes serving the Moldovan capital. Other Wizz Air flights from Chișinău include services to Alicante and Frankfurt-Hahn.
Chișinău International Airport welcomed the new Wizz Air flights as a significant milestone for the small eastern European nation’s air travel industry.
At a press conference, Sergiu Spoială, director of Chișinău International Airport, told the Moldovan news agency Moldpress:
“Today confirms the direction we have embraced, to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to Europe. The return of Wizz Air’s operational base at the end of last year was a crucial step, and the current expansion represents a clear signal of confidence in the growth potential of our market. This partnership fosters healthy competition, which translates into more advantageous prices for passengers. In parallel, we continue with plans to modernize the airport to increase capacity to 6 million passengers annually.”
The new Chișinău via London Gatwick route is part of a wider expansion initiative by Wizz Air, with 18 new routes announced in Spain alone, including Madrid, Valencia, Bilbao, Málaga, Santander, Asturias (Oviedo), Santiago de Compostela and Palma de Mallorca, and other international connections, including Pisa, Naples and Brașov.
Wizz Air is known for its low-cost routes across Europe and operates a fleet of 263 Airbus aircraft.
