Vietnam’s registered aircraft fleet has officially reached a record high with 258 planes being operated by Vietnamese airlines, the largest of which remains VietJet Air. This marks another success for Vietnam’s aviation industry, which has rapidly been developing as an international hub for travel. This is also a marked increase from Vietnam’s number of aircraft in September 2025.

Vietnamese Airlines Continue to Grow
As of Sept, 22. 2026, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam announced Vietnam had 258 registered aircraft, operated by 13 different companies spanning commercial aviation, general aviation, specialised aviation and flight training. This is a significant increase of 31 aircraft from September 2025.
VietJet Air is the largest carrier in the country with a fleet of 107 aircraft. This comprises 16 Airbus A320s, 83 A321s, as well as eight wide-body Airbus A330s. This month it also received a delivery of another Airbus A330.
As previously reported by Travel Radar, VietJet Air has major expansion plans. It has placed orders for an additional 400 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing which are planned to be delivered through 2030.
Vietnam Airlines, the country’s flag carrier and its second largest airline, currently operates 94 aircraft that includes four Airbus A320s, 59 A321s, 15 A350s, and 17 Boeing 787s. Vietnam Airlines also has plans for fleet expansion; earlier this month, the airline signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for five A350-900 wide-body aircraft. These planes are set to be delivered by 2033-2034.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways is a newer airline, only having received its air operator’s certificate in September 2025, but has already amassed 21 aircraft, all from Airbus. It has ambitious plans to expand its fleet over the next ten years, however. According to Vietnam Net Global, the carrier aims to have 100 aircraft by 2030 and 200 by 2035.
The rest of Vietnam’s aircraft are owned by smaller airlines including Green Planet Airways, VietTravel Airlines, Hai Au Aviation, and Bluesky Airways.

Vietnam’s Aviation Industry: A Year In Summary
The news that Vietnam has reached a record number of planes in its fleet follows a year of significant development for Vietnam’s commercial aviation industry.
Vietnam Airlines announced new European routes to destinations like Amsterdam and Moscow, whilst VietJet Air announced a Hanoi-Prague route due to debut in October. Airlines have also expanded their domestic routes, increasing the number of destinations within Vietnam as well as the frequency of flights.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways, despite having only been operating flights for ten months, has already raised capital twice and doubled its shareholder count.
Other developments include Vietnam’s air traffic growing by more than a tenth. Foreign visitors to the country surpassed 20 million for the first time, and the demand for Vietnam’s international routes are facing high demand. Whilst domestic demand has remained stagnant, international demand is likely to continue to rise and as airlines increase their capacity for these long-haul routes, the industry seems set to grow further.
All of this indicates that Vietnam’s aviation industry is a rapidly-growing sector with seemingly many more developments in the pipeline, from further fleet expansion to planned route development to expand Vietnam’s position as an international hub.
