VietJetAir is set for major fleet growth following the carrier’s announcement it expects to receive more than 600 Airbus and Boeing aircraft by 2035. This follows from the airline’s previous strategic plans for network expansion, both domestically and internationally, as well as modernising its fleet.
VietJetAir’s Strategy for 2026
VietJetAir is a Vietnamese airline based in Hanoi which operates low-budget flights around Southeast and Northeast Asia as well as some destinations in Oceania. The airline currently operates 213 routes which comprises 46 Vietnam domestic services and an additional 167 international services. Previously this year, VietJet announced new international routes to connect Vietnam with China, Sri Lanka, and Kazakhstan as well as the Czech Republic in order to strengthen its international presence across Asia and Europe.
Earlier this year, VietjetAir shared some insights into their outlook report for the first quarter of 2026 which revealed their Q1 performance had accelerated with a revenue of 21.021 trillion VND (Vietnamese Dong), about $798.6 million, an increase of 17% from their 2025 Q1 performance.
This came alongside an announcement of the airline’s strategic plans for VietJet’s continued development in order to sustain such improvements for the rest of 2026 and beyond. VietJetAir announced it was focused on expanding the airline’s international network, modernising its fleet, and enhancing customer experience.
The carrier has stated its intentions to increase its presence in several key markets such as India, China, and Northeast Asia. In addition to this, VietJetAir has expressed interest in exploring long-haul destinations in Europe and Australia.
Earlier this month, August 2026, VietJetAir also posted their H1 2026 report, which highlighted how the airline performed in the first half of 2026. In the second quarter of 2026, the airline recorded a separate revenue of 25.542 trillion VND (around $972 million USD) and consolidated revenue of 30.499 trillion VND (around $1.16 billion USD). Both of which are significant increases from 2025 Q2 reports of around 44% and 71% respectively.
VietJetAir’s Expanded Fleet
As part of its strategic plans, VietJetAir announced its plans to invest in the growth of its fleet of aircraft. Following that announcement, the airline has confirmed it is expecting over 600 Airbus and Boeing aircraft by 2035 in order to expand its network and services.
Part of this expansion will include the introduction of new aircraft to VietJetAir’s services, such as the Airbus A321XLR, a fuel-efficient plane that will enable the airline to operate long-haul flights and expand its international services.
Other disclosed commitments include 200 B737 MAX jets, 40 A330-900Ns, and orders for 280 A32neo aircraft. These planes will be received by VietJetAir as well as VietJet Thailand and VietJet Qazaqstan, two partnership airlines that service various parts of Asia. Thai VietJet Air is set to receive numerous B737-8s for its own network expansion, whilst its Kazakhstani counterpart is scheduled to receive its first B737-8 aircraft in September 2026.
This major expansion of VietJetAir’s fleet has the potential to establish the airline as a major player in Asia’s aviation industry as well as to set the foundation for VietJetAir to become an international presence by enabling the carrier to develop more routes between Vietnam and more international destinations and carry out more frequent long-haul flights.
